When working with a new site the other day that had not resolved. I had a disruption in my network that brought my whole show down.
NOT GOOD !!!
Strange thinks always happen to me with network disruptions. When the site came back up, it had all sorts of bugs. So I thought that I would just let it resolve first and then get into it. When I got back to it in a couple of days, I thought I would call the site from the name server. The site looked like a can of worms. However when I called the site from name the site came up just fine. So I was thinking that the site still had not resolved. I actually deleted the files and database yet the site still came up proving that the site had not resolved yet. Now there is no need to get into any real site work until the site has resolved,
sooo ……………… I waited ……….. and waited ……….. and waited.
When I did a dns nameserver check through network-tools.com
the site was shown as being on my server. Oh man …….. no way !!! I’m getting two different looks from two different areas.
I mean ……… just common knowledge says that the site is being called from two different areas, and around and around I went in search for the fantom DNS.
When I call the site from the DNS signature, I know for a fact that’s what is on my server. But when I call the name of the site “http:www. what in the world is going on here.com” I get a totally different site look. And around and around I went ……….
Man ……. this is a major glitch, I worked with my host tech support for two days, before I came to the conclusion that I have some sort of a file problem that is disrupting the way the site is called. As I worked on the site I had a database break that gave me proof that the site was indeed be called from my server. Got it …….. at last ………. I now knew that the site is where it should be but why the different look.
As I searched the file system, finally ………. there it is, along with the help of my tech support it was discovered that the “.htaccess” rules were defining how the site was called.
In all my world travels I have never seen a site where the site look one way when called by the DNS Signature and look another when called by the name of the site.
Be forewarned ……… In the next post I’ll get into this file (.htaccess ) a little deeper.
