VPS For The Blogger

It would appear that Hostgator.com has finally brought it’s VPS Hosting Services online at last. It seems that VPS is all the rage these days. In talking with different tech-support personal, it seems that the greatest benefit for the bloggers comes with smoother operation, faster response and loading especially with WordPress MU.

If you follow this blog than you know that I’m  kinda old school; I shy away for WordPress Mu and I not one for the Cloud. With VPS, it seems fills a void between the shared server environment and the dedicated one. I think that it all comes down to cost and that VPS is a cost affective alternative to a dedicated server, while providing you all the extras and goodies that go along with a dedicated server environment.

I’m not so sure that a VPS solution is good for a really large single blog,  or limited WordPress MU applications or even as a good match for a re-seller. I’m sure it’s good for something, but I’m just not sure what …… I mean outside of cost, but how much pain can the cost of a dedicated server be when your at that level ? I know, I know; security! But for a Blog ? I mean ….. if you really must scrape my content ………. I don’t think that VPS will help much. As far as security goes ……… what about one of those nasty “Copyscape” signs ? That should scare away the bad guys, right ?

Seems to me that VPS is a imaginative effort to put lipstick on the cloud! However, I can see that with just one blog or one account you could cut your cost in half with increased speed and smoother operation but with less storage being the trade-off.

I don’t mean to kick the tires ………. I mean, if no one wanted VPS, than no one would offer the service. I just not so sure it is a good fit for the “Extreme Blogger”.
