WordPress MU

I was looking at a series of websites for sale the other day at the popular online auction location “flippa”. And the package attracted my attention because the price was pretty out there for a series of blogs or what I thought at first glance was just one blog. Come to find out that the price was pretty much in-line for the many blogs that were up for sale. However, what I was looking at got me to thinking and eventually motivated this post.
The series of blogs that were up for sale were running on “WordPress MU”. I just thought I would pass along my thoughts on this and would like to hear any comments on the subject from the readers.
Having no real experience on “WordPress MU” I cannot speak for the security of the software, however looking at my last post on this blog you will notice that I address a bad security breach in the WordPress software controlled by a “phantom administrator”.
It would seem to me to make common sense that the last thing you would want to do is to risk 90 or so adsense blogs on a single piece of controlling software. I manage 11 blogs and they give me fits trying to keep all the “camp fires” lit, with each having its own issues with seperate copies of WordPress, however if one is attacked, only that one will go down. If I were running MU, all would go down. Can anyone spell O-U-T O-F B-U-S-I-N-E-S-S.
To be sure, MU is a great idea, I’m just not so sure, it’s a good idea to run and manage a fist full of blogs with the software in todays “Virus” prone age.
In the end analysis ………. it comes down to risk versus reward. You know my take on the issue (”it all seems like a house of cards”) ……… what’s yours ?
